April 17, 2024
The David C. Anchin Center for the Advancement of Teaching hosted an informative webinar titled "Differentiated and Responsive Literacy Instruction for All Students" on Wednesday, April 17, 2024. The free event, offered in partnership with the 91tvӰԺ Literacy Studies program, brought together educators eager to enhance their literacy instruction skills, particularly for students facing reading difficulties and those with characteristics of dyslexia.
Designed for current and pre-service teachers, literacy specialists, and administrators, the webinar aimed to equip educators with the tools and strategies necessary to support struggling readers. The session focused on several key areas, including decoding difficulties, dyslexia, comprehension challenges, and differentiated teaching. Participants also learned about explicit and systematic reading strategies, the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), and available free classroom resources.
The distinguished panel of facilitators included Dr. Lisa Kelly and Dr. Janet Outlaw, both Assistant Professors of Instruction in Literacy Studies at the University of South Florida (91tvӰԺ) College of Education; Dr. Hope Zikpi, Visiting Assistant Professor of Instruction in Exceptional Student Education at 91tvӰԺ; and Ms. Tina Herbst, ESE Supervisor in K-12 Instructional Support and Assessment for Hillsborough County Schools. Each brought a wealth of experience and expertise to the discussion, guiding attendees through practical and evidence-based approaches to literacy instruction.
The event was well-received by participants, who praised the actionable insights and comprehensive resources provided. The Anchin Center remains committed to supporting educators through such initiatives, fostering an environment where all students can achieve literacy success.
