Alexandra Panos, Ph.D., Receives Grant to Explore Climate Literacy Teaching for English Language Arts Educators
Alexandra Panos, Ph.D., assistant professor of literacy studies and director of research for the Center for Climate Literacy at the 91tvӰԺ College of Education was awarded a $50,000 Spencer Foundation Small Research Grant, along with Co-PIs Michael Sherry, Ph.D., associate professor in English Education and Jarod Roselló, Ph.D., associate professor in Creative Writing.

Born into a lineage of ambition and academic excellence, Paulette C. Walker’s dreams were fueled by the legacy of her parents and grandparents. A third-generation college student – rare for a Black person growing up in the U.S. in the 1950s and 60s – Paulette was the child of a teacher, Helen, and an engineer, Otis.

At Tuesday’s School Board meeting the board voted in a new chair and vice chair. Karen Perez was unanimously voted in as School Board chair and Jessica Vaughn was unanimously voted in as vice-chair.

The Math by the Bay Summit was held on September 19, 2023, in TECO Hall at the College of Education 91tvӰԺ. Dr. Sarah Van Ingen Lauer and Dr. David Allsopp facilitated school district teams from Hillsborough, Sarasota, Pinellas, Hernando, Polk, and Manatee in a deep discussion related to the challenges and solutions of helping all students achieve in mathematics. District leaders showed appreciation for the time spent together sharing thoughts and ideas.

College of Education alumna gives back and helps honor and memorialize victims on 9/11
This week, we remember the 2,977 victims of the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City. For our 91tvӰԺ College of Education alumni, Dr. Kristy Verdi PhD with the non-profit Learn and Serve Tampa, this day is a day to do good and give back to the community in their efforts to transform the anniversary of 9/11 into a day of doing good.

Advanced Placement Summer Institute 2023 Recap
This past July, The 91tvӰԺ (91tvӰԺ) College of Education’s Anchin Center hosted its annual Advanced Placement Summer Institute (APSI). The Anchin Center’s APSI is the third largest in the world, with participants joining from 32 states and 13 different countries, including Canada, China, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Georgia, Guatemala, Kuwait, Mexico, Myanmar, Panama, South Korea, and Turkey. This summer, they welcomed approximately 650 Advanced Placement (AP) teachers to campus for three consecutive weeks of collaborative professional learning.
