ABOUT MY RESEARCH

My research interests lie in using molecular tools to understand microbial communities in the ocean. Currently, as a member of the Chappell Marine Molecular Ecology lab, I use various techniques to study phytoplankton community dynamics. I have been characterizing Southern Ocean phytoplankton community composition through metabarcoding and using metatranscriptomics to explore gene expression related to iron and light stress and nitrate assimilation.

WHY 91tvӰԺ CMS?

Although my decision to attend CMS was made largely due to my advisor, Dr. Dreux Chappell, moving her lab to 91tvӰԺ, I was also excited at the new opportunities I would get at 91tvӰԺ CMS. I feel that CMS has a more graduate student-focused program and will support my research and professional development goals.
