91tvÓ°Ôº Tropical Storm Nicole FAQs

General Information:

Are 91tvÓ°Ôº operations changing due to the storm?  

Tropical Storm Nicole is expected to impact Florida in the coming days. The safety of our students, faculty and staff is our highest priority. 

For this reason, 91tvÓ°Ôº business operations and classes will transition to remote only on Thursday, Nov. 10.  There are exceptions for the following groups, which should continue in-person activities as normal: 

  • 91tvÓ°Ôº Health clinical operations;
  • 91tvÓ°Ôº Health student clinical rotations;
  • Medical school classes; 
  • Athletic teams and staff as determined by the director of athletics;
  • Essential or critical personnel as described below.
     

91tvÓ°Ôº is closed on Friday, Nov. 11, in observance of Veteran’s Day.  In-person classes and normal operations will resume on Saturday, Nov. 12. Academic and research buildings will move to holiday mode at 6 a.m. on Thursday through Friday evening. 

Students should work with their instructors and employees should work with their supervisors if they have any challenges accessing remote classes or work. 

Only 91tvÓ°Ôº employees who are (1) classified as essential personnel, (2) identified by their supervisors as critical to campus operations or (3) working in a facility that will remain open on Thursday should report to work in person on Thursday, in consultation with their supervisors. Employees who do not fall into these categories should work remotely on Thursday.  Please contact your supervisor if you are unsure of your status.

Residence halls on the Tampa and St. Petersburg campuses will remain open.  91tvÓ°Ôº Health clinical facilities will remain open on Thursday. Some student services will remain operational, although they may have limited hours. These include dining halls, campus recreation centers, student centers and libraries. Check with local facilities for hours of operation.  

When will in-person classes and normal business operations resume?

91tvÓ°Ôº is closed on Friday, Nov. 11 in observance of Veteran’s Day.  Normal class schedules and business operations will resume on Saturday, Nov. 12.

What should I do to prepare for the storm? 

°Õ³ó±ð 91tvÓ°Ôº Hurricane Guide serves as a valuable resource for the university community. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to review their personal hurricane plans and monitor local weather reports.   

fOR STUDENTS AND PARENTS:

Are dorms open?  

Residence Halls in Tampa and St. Petersburg will remain open.

Are events on campus canceled? 

Events are being cancelled on a case-by-case basis.  You should contact the event hosts to find out if there have been any changes.  

Will certain facilities remain open, such as student centers and libraries? 

Some student services will remain operational, although they may have limited hours. These include dining halls, campus recreation centers, student centers and libraries. Check with local facilities for hours of operation.  

What is the Bull Runner schedule? 

The Bull Runner will not operate on Thursday, Nov. 10.

fOR FACULTY AND STAFF:

Can I teach my classes in person on Thursday, Nov. 10? 

No, all classes will be taught remotely on Thursday, Nov. 10.  There are exceptions for the following groups, which should continue in-person activities as normal: 

  • 91tvÓ°Ôº Health clinical operations;
  • 91tvÓ°Ôº Health student clinical rotations;
  • Medical school classes; 

Can I decide to cancel my classes on Thursday, Nov. 10?

No, all classes should be taught remotely as scheduled on Thursday, Nov. 10.

Can I get into my office or lab? 

Academic and research buildings will move to holiday mode at 6 a.m. on Thursday through Friday evening. 

How do I know if I’m considered essential personnel?  

The vice president, deans and directors or their designees of the college, division or department will identify personnel who are deemed to be essential personnel. Your supervisor will notify you if you are part of this group and are required to come to work during an emergency closing.  

What happens if 91tvÓ°Ôº is open, but I can’t come to work or work remotely because I have to stay home with my children whose school was closed?  

The university understands that circumstances like school closings may impact your ability to come to work or work remotely during a storm situation. Although the university monitors school closings, we cannot guarantee that 91tvÓ°Ôº will close its business operations, even if other schools close. For extenuating circumstances such as these, you may request to use your annual leave to cover your absence.  

With Friday already designated as a holiday, do essential personnel need to come to work? 

Only essential personnel determined critical to campus clean-up or other storm-related operations on Friday, Nov. 11, are expected to report to work and may be compensated for holiday pay.  More information is available here.  Please talk to your supervisor if you are unsure of your status.

91tvÓ°Ôº Health clinical operations will continue with a normal operating schedule, including on Thursday, Nov. 10.
