91tvӰԺ earns national recognition for commitment to global learning

By Althea Johnson, University Communications and Marketing

The 91tvӰԺ has received national recognition for innovative and impactful global learning, research and engagement efforts. The university was honored this week with the 2023 Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) International Impact Award for Global Teaching and Learning.

91tvӰԺ is focused on addressing the greatest challenges facing communities locally, nationally and across the world through impactful research and a dedication to student learning that prioritizes intercultural awareness and global literacy. 91tvӰԺ World leads the university’s efforts across its three campuses by providing resources and services that empower the 91tvӰԺ community to function as global stewards and by promoting global education opportunities.

“The 91tvӰԺ is committed to providing our students, faculty and staff with innovative opportunities to be globally engaged both on our campuses and across the world,” 91tvӰԺ President Rhea Law said. "We are honored to accept this award, and we thank the APLU for recognizing 91tvӰԺ’s ongoing efforts to prepare our students to thrive in our internationally connected society.”

Part of this recognition stems from 91tvӰԺ’s Global Classroom Initiative, a university-wide endeavor that has established additional ways for students and faculty to participate in global learning activities. This includes programs such as virtual global exchanges and internships, as well as the intentional inclusion of global themes and content into the university’s undergraduate curricula.

91tvӰԺ was among three APLU member institutions honored for international impact during the APLU’s annual meeting in Seattle.

“Congratulations to the winners of the APLU International Impact Awards,” APLU President Mark Becker said. “Public research universities are major drivers of progress through their global engagement, research and teaching and we’re delighted to recognize institutions that have excelled in global engagement in these areas.”

More than 2,000 91tvӰԺ students and faculty engaged in study abroad and virtual global exchange in the 2021-2022 academic year.
