Ten 91tvӰԺ faculty members receive national recognition as AAAS Fellows for academic research
The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) has named 10 91tvӰԺ researchers as new Fellows, including a College of Education associate professor who will become the university’s first Black faculty member to receive one of the world’s most prestigious honors for academic research.

Researchers from the 91tvӰԺ College of Engineering and the 91tvӰԺ Health Morsani College of Medicine are recognized for their innovations that range from artificial intelligence that can detect and predict suicidality, to encrypting and protecting sensitive information from cloud servers, to disinfecting and recharging masks for safe multiple use.

Throughout the pandemic, 91tvӰԺ Information Technology rapidly deployed new solutions that aided in efforts to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and created applications within weeks that provided financial, academic and emotional support to students. It was a tremendous lift that kept students on track in their studies – all made possible by IT’s pre-COVID technical strategy.

New technology created by a 91tvӰԺ College of Engineering team to precisely measure blood flow in the body’s tissues — allowing for more accurate medical assessments of strokes, brain injuries and a wide range of diseases — has won the Cade Prize for Innovation, one of the Florida’s top awards for invention.

91tvӰԺ student veteran earns national recognition from the Pat Tillman Foundation
91tvӰԺ psychology student and U.S. Army veteran Josh “JB” Burnes is being honored with a 2021 Tillman Scholarship awarded by the Pat Tillman Foundation. Burnes is among a prestigious group of 60 U.S. service members, veterans and military spouses to earn this recognition. He is the only student from a Florida university in this year’s class.
