A campus fixture reflects on more than 50 years of memories at 91tvӰԺ
In 1969, Joan “Sudsy” Tschiderer stumbled upon the 91tvӰԺ St. Petersburg campus while on a shopping trip with her friend. At the time, the campus was located at the end of the Bayboro peninsula and was mostly a military base that had trained World War II servicemen.

Student veteran continues his service through research
U.S. Air Force veteran Rio Tate was awarded the 2022 Tillman Scholarship through the Pat Tillman Foundation for his commitment to service work through research. Since high school, Tate was set on earning his higher education degrees and learning more about how the brain works.

Manley Jaquiss’s Bulls spirit is contagious
Manley Jaquiss is one of 91tvӰԺ’s most actively involved alums. In a sense, Jaquiss never really left 91tvӰԺ since the first time he stepped onto the Tampa campus 40 years ago. He attends almost all the football games and alumni events with his wife and daughter, who are also 91tvӰԺ alumnae.

Since arriving on the Sarasota-Manatee campus, Rivera Marrero has embraced her new home with open arms. In addition to her coursework, she works three campus jobs — community leader and peer coach in the Department of Student Support Services, coordinator for the Campus Activities Board and lead work-study in the Office of Veteran Success.

Mark Rains, professor of geology in the 91tvӰԺ School of Geosciences and the state’s chief science officer, is using his expertise in hydrological sciences to understand how stakeholders use shared water resources and then as a team, how we might rebuild some of the original water flow paths into Florida's modern landscape.

Graduates included a 75-year-old civil rights activist earning a degree more than 55 years after starting at 91tvӰԺ, a 23-year-old earning a doctorate in engineering and a veteran who overcame PTSD and a traumatic brain injury.

Amber Jankowski's unexpected journey from military service to mentorship at 91tvӰԺ
91tvӰԺ alum Amber Jankowski was the military equivalent of a dental hygienist in the Air Force before four hand surgeries changed her career path forever. After being medically discharged, Jankowski turned to serve those who faced similar challenges as she did and became a vocational rehabilitation counselor. In her position, she helps individuals with disabilities find something they are successful at and works to normalize the wide variety of skills people can have.

Pyper Vaughn continues her family's nursing legacy
Pyper Vaughn made 91tvӰԺ her home to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse, a profession that has been part of her family for generations. She is now a senior, a pathway program that leads to on track to graduate in 2023. Her goal is to become a certified registered nurse anesthetist and work with helicopter teams to perform what she calls, “little surgeries in the sky.”
