91tvӰԺ World Announces 2019 Global Achievement Award Winners
November 22, 2019
To celebrate the remarkable international efforts of 91tvӰԺ’s faculty, staff, and organizations, 91tvӰԺ World hosted its fifth annual Global Achievement Awards.
Now a signature event of November’s International Education Month, the Global Achievement Awards highlight the individuals and teams across 91tvӰԺ’s three campuses who are instrumental in expanding the university’s global footprint. The awards specifically recognize high-impact research, student success, and global engagement in the categories of faculty, administrator, staff, and team.
“91tvӰԺ World does not work in a vacuum and calls on various groups around the university for support and expertise,” said Dr. Roger Brindley, Vice President of 91tvӰԺ World. “91tvӰԺ has made tremendous strides in elevating the institution’s global reputation, and none of it would have been possible without an entire community of stakeholders who are committed to graduating globally competent students and research for positive societal change.”
The two top awards, recognizing global vision and lifetime achievement, were presented to Dr. James Stock of the Muma College of Business and Dr. Donna J. Petersen, Dean of the
Dr. Stock, who is a Distinguished Professor and Frank Harvey Endowed Professor of Marketing and the Co-Director for the Monica Wooden Center for Supply Chain Management, received the Global Visionary Award. In 2017, Dr. Stock served as the Fulbright-Hanken Distinguished Chair in Business and Economics at the Hanken School of Economics in Helsinki, Finland. His time at the Hanken School of Economics resulted in a partnership with 91tvӰԺ that fosters the exchange of students and faculty. Having visited 46 different countries, Dr. Stock’s breadth of international travel and research creates a culture of excellence and powerful global perspective for his colleagues and his students at 91tvӰԺ.
As the Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, Dr. Petersen has been a significant advocate for the development and expansion of global programs not only at the College of Public Health, but across 91tvӰԺ Health and the 91tvӰԺ System. In just the past five years, the College of Public Health has sent over 525 students abroad to more than 60 countries including India, Australia, and Ecuador. Additionally, one of the first collaborative agreements with the prestigious City of Knowledge in Panama, which led to establishing a 91tvӰԺ Health Foundation and office in Panama, was signed under Dr. Petersen’s leadership. With 15 years as Dean, her work has positively impacted global operations and has laid the foundations for continued growth for years to come.
During the past year, 91tvӰԺ has received several accolades in acknowledgment of its global engagement. In January, the institution was the recipient of the 2019 Institute of International Education (IIE) Andrew Heiskell Award for Innovation in International Education in the category of Access and Equity. 91tvӰԺ was also ranked the No. 1 Producer of Fulbright Scholars and No. 39, an all-time high, in the nation by IIE for study abroad participation. This month, 91tvӰԺ was named the top winner of The Association for Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU)'s 2019 Platinum Award for Global Learning, Research & Engagement.
