Conference Abstract

IWB: A NEXUS FOR RESEARCH & POLICY

The 2025 Conference on IWB focused on the lived experiences, challenges, and successes of new populations within and across generations over time in the United States. Presentations critically examined the intergenerational impacts of how United States policies and programs shape the daily lives and well-being of new populations and their families. By centering the voices and experiences of new populations, this conference generated empirical work that promotes the humanity of new populations and informs evidence-based policymaking at the local, state, and national level.

CONFERENCE OVERVIEW

The 2025 IWB Conference has successfully concluded. We are grateful to all participants, speakers, and supporters who contributed to the enriching discussions and productive workshops that made this event a landmark success.

Event Recap:

  • Engaging Panels: The conference featured four dynamic panels that delved into the complexities of the well-being of new populations across diverse topics. Discussions ranged from public health issues to legal, economic, and social impacts of immigration enforcement policies and processes. Each panel concluded with actionable policy implications.
  • Interactive Workshops: On the second day, participants engaged in hands-on activities designed to translate academic research into effective policy recommendations. The workshops were enriched by the virtual participation of two policymakers who provided expert guidance on engaging with policymakers and presenting findings in a clear and impactful manner. This session was pivotal in enhancing the practical impact of academic work.
  • Network Expansion: The conference facilitated significant networking opportunities among researchers. A special panel featuring four scholars affiliated with the IWB Scholar Collaborative shared how membership has enhanced their ability to influence policymaking and expand their reach to key stakeholders. These interactions fostered new research collaborations and strengthened our academic network, marking a step forward in ongoing support for our communities.
