Join in Foundation Days - Aug 13-14, 2024

Join the Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning August 13 and 14th from 9-4 pm to establish your toolkit for excellence in your courses. Sessions will orient you to teaching at 91tvӰԺ and focus on integrating evidence-based practices that promote learning.

Explore ways to:

• establish class community,
• facilitate conversations,
• design meaningful learning experiences,
• promote academic integrity,
• leverage generative AI
• and more!

This foundational series is the first step in your Exploring Teaching and Learning (ETL) journey, designed to support your ongoing growth and success as an educator and learner.

The ETL Foundation series is targeted towards new and early career instructors at 91tvӰԺ. Sessions will be held in-person at the MSC on the Tampa campus, and continental breakfast and lunch will be provided!

9:15 am	Your Teaching Community at 91tvӰԺ Discover the support, policies, and opportunities that come with teaching at 91tvӰԺ, emphasizing learning and teaching as processes.
10:45 am	Break
11:00 am	Exploring the Science of How People Learn Identify several evidence-based learning principles and how to implement them in everyday classrooms to enhance students’ learning.
12:00 PM	Lunch
1:00 PM	Supporting Academic Integrity Examine practices for establishing a culture of academic integrity at the beginning of the semester and sustaining it throughout the learning experience.

2:45 pm	Building Classroom Community Building a sense of community in the classroom can help promote student success through their motivation, confidence, and feeling of belonging. This session will explore strategies to enhance the community in your courses.
3:15 pm	First Day of Class Engagement  Explore first day activities and strategies to create a collaborative classroom environment and positive expectations about learning

9:15 am	Leveraging genAI for Learning and Teaching Given the increasing prevalence of generative AI and its potential to transform higher education, join in an open conversation about implications for learning and teaching.

11:00 am	Designing Meaningful Learning Experiences  Identify the components of backward design for learning, and how to write and align learning objectives, assessments, and instructional strategies to create effective and engaging educational experiences.

1:00 pm	Facilitate Intentional Classroom Conversations  Explore the practices and polices that shape positive and inclusive classroom discussions in this workshop.

3:00 pm	Teaching and Learning Digitally  This session highlights the services, approaches and tools from Innovative Education’s Digital Learning team, including a brief overview of 91tvӰԺ’s Learning Management System, Canvas. Faculty will have an opportunity for hands-on practice in their own Canvas course, so please bring a laptop if possible.
