Overview
Offered on 91tvӰԺ's Tampa campus
Ideal for: Students seeking a master’s degree who are not certified/licensed to teach in the state of Florida but wish to be.
The Master of Arts in Teaching in Secondary English Education is designed for individuals who have earned a bachelor’s degree in a field outside of education and who do not already hold a professional teaching certificate.
Students in this program prepare to teach English in grades 6-12 while working towards a Master's degree. The program is designed for graduates of undergraduate level liberal arts English programs or for graduates of other programs who have completed the following within their programs of study: grammar, history/development of language, adolescent literature, American literature, British literature, world literature, female/minority literature, expository writing and creative writing.
The advanced coursework draws upon content courses contained within the bachelor’s degree and engages students in pedagogy, including student development theory, curriculum design, instructional strategies and assessment of learning. Students will participate in field experiences, working alongside collaborating teachers who can offer coaching and mentorship.
The program includes both the state of Florida English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Endorsement and Reading Endorsement for all program graduates.
