Advanced Placement Summer Institute 2023 Recap
This past July, The 91tvӰԺ (91tvӰԺ) College of Education’s Anchin Center hosted its annual Advanced Placement Summer Institute (APSI). The Anchin Center’s APSI is the third largest in the world, with participants joining from 32 states and 13 different countries, including Canada, China, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Georgia, Guatemala, Kuwait, Mexico, Myanmar, Panama, South Korea, and Turkey. This summer, they welcomed approximately 650 Advanced Placement (AP) teachers to campus for three consecutive weeks of collaborative professional learning.

The David C. Anchin Center for the Advancement of Teaching will host its inaugural marathon, the 5K for K-12, on Saturday, March 26, 2022. The event will serve as a fundraising opportunity to support the Anchin Center’s professional development activities.

The Journal of Practitioner Research, an open-access journal housed in the 91tvӰԺ College of Education, published a special issue about the challenges and opportunities teachers are facing during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

91tvӰԺ Team Selected to Join New NSF Diversity Program
A cross-departmental team from 91tvӰԺ is one of four groups chosen nationwide to participate in a new National Science Foundation (NSF) pilot program called All-ABOARD, which stands for “Alliance-Building Offshore to Achieve Resilience and Diversity.” Members of the team that prepared the application from the College of Education include Ruthmae Sears, PhD, and Dana Thompson Dorsey, PhD.

In this role, Dr. Thompson Dorsey will advance the Anchin Center’s mission of collaborating with teachers, school leaders, districts and other educators to improve the quality of education for students and transforming the teaching profession to attract, retain and develop quality, culturally responsive educators.

Created in response to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the conference will discuss the urgency the education sector faces in developing enduring, transformative changes for how education is provided to diverse populations in Florida schools.
